This guide was developed by the Disparities Solution Centre at Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to highlighting evidence and models of practice, it provides a set of activities and resources that can help hospital leaders initiate an agenda for action to reduce health disparities. Chapter 5: What Can You Do? presents steps in a process to engage physicians, staff, board members and volunteers of an urban hospital in reducing health disparities, from assessing readiness through to taking action and evaluating results. While the guide is specific to the U.S. health care environment, the CE process is a useful example of engaging stakeholders internal to an organization towards achieving an organizational or health goal, and readily transferable to the Canadian context. Note that a PowerPoint presentation is included on the website, containing speaking points for use with hospital leaders.
