Choosing the right techniques & tools

There are a huge number of tools and techniques that have been developed to address the various goals of CE. The challenge is to find the most appropriate tool for the job.

IAP2 presents an overview of the most commonly-used tools to support each of the goals of CE in their Spectrum of Public Participation.

IAP2’s Public Participation Toolbox lists and critiques techniques under three main categories:

  • Techniques to share information
  • Techniques to compile and provide feedback
  • Techniques to bring people together
